Volunteer Terms & Service Hours

About YCI

The Youth Civic Initiative is a student-led, strictly non-partisan organization focused on civic education, civic engagement, voter registration, and research. YCI creates opportunities for people to learn about civic participation, become involved in their communities, and contribute to community-based research.

YCI is not currently a registered nonprofit organization and does not endorse candidates, political parties, ballot measures, or particular political positions.

Media & Outreach

Help YCI communicate information and promote approved initiatives through digital outreach and content creation.

1–2 Hours

Field Outreach

Help introduce YCI and its projects through approved school and community outreach activities.

3 Hours

Event & Tabling Support

Help set up and operate YCI outreach tables and approved school, library, park, or community events.

3–5 Hours

Chapter Leadership

Take on an approved YCI leadership role and help coordinate school chapters, meetings, volunteers, or regional operations.

6–10 Hours / Month

Volunteer Service Opportunities

YCI offers several approved volunteer activities that allow members to contribute to civic education, community engagement, research, outreach, and public service. Service hours are based on verified completion of approved activities.

GET INVOLVED

Community Research

Help research local civic issues and turn information into clear, youth-friendly research materials.

2 Hours

Survey Collection

Help YCI collect completed eligible adult responses for the San Diego County Political Attitudes Survey through approved community outreach.

1 Hour / 10 Verified Responses

Voter Engagement

Help with approved voter registration and pre-registration education and outreach in a strictly non-partisan manner.

3–5 Hours

Service hours are based on verified completion of approved activities. Requirements and documentation may vary by activity.

Fully engage in the volunteer activity and ensure all responsibilities are met.

How Service Hours Are Verified

YCI verifies volunteer participation before service-hour documentation is provided. Volunteers must accurately record their participation and complete any documentation required for the activity.

Complete all required logs, forms, or signatures needed for the specific activity.
