Volunteer Terms and Service Hours

Important information for YCI volunteers.

1. About YCI

The Youth Civic Initiative (YCI) is a youth-founded, nonpartisan organization dedicated to providing civic education and conducting independent research for communities around San Diego County. Our mission is to empower the next generation of informed and engaged citizens by providing accessible resources and opportunities for civic involvement.

2. Volunteering with YCI

YCI offers various volunteer opportunities for students and community members interested in civic engagement. Volunteers can participate in research projects, educational outreach, and administrative support. We seek dedicated individuals committed to nonpartisan civic development and community service.

3. Community Service Hours

YCI is an approved organization for community service hours. Volunteers can earn credit for their time spent on authorized YCI activities. Hours are calculated based on actual time contributed toward assigned tasks and projects that benefit the community civic landscape.

4. Verification

Verification of service hours must be requested upon completion of the volunteer assignment. YCI will provide formal documentation and sign-offs required by your institution. All hours are subject to review and confirmation by project leads before final verification is issued.

5. Important: School & College Requirements

It is the volunteer's responsibility to ensure that YCI activities meet their specific school or college service requirements. We recommend confirming with your counselor or institution prior to starting. YCI provides standard documentation, but cannot guarantee acceptance if institution-specific criteria are not met.

6. Survey Participation

Participation in YCI surveys helps us gather vital data on regional civic needs. Volunteers may be asked to help distribute or complete surveys as part of their service. All gathered information is handled with strict confidentiality and used solely for research purposes to better inform civic education programs.

7. Volunteer Acknowledgement

By volunteering with the Youth Civic Initiative, you acknowledge and agree to adhere to our nonpartisan mission and professional conduct standards. A YCI representative will follow up with you regarding specific opportunities and next steps following your application submission. We look forward to working with you.
